I always think of winter as having two parts. The first part of winter isn't technically winter. It's more like the first day of December, when everyone is preparing for the holidays and everything is festive and it's cold anyway so why not call it winter, right? And then there's the second part of winter. Winter winter. Cold, biting, crispy winter. But apart from Valentine's Day, the holidays and festivities are pretty much over and sequins just aren't going to cut it for a day at the office anymore.
So what now?
At this stage of winter, it's far too cold to focus on sparkly skirts and cute berets. People are reasonably more concerned about warmth and survival. Don't worry, I feel you! But you'll be happy to know that there is a happy medium of warm and chic. Cozy and stylish. Here are a few of my favorite wardrobe staples for the freezing cold winters at the beginning of the year.
1. Faux Fur Coats
I think my favorite part about a winter wardrobe is the coats. I just recently purchased my first faux fur coat from Belk in a pretty rose quartz color, and I'm absolutely in love. Faux fur coats are just so warm and soft! They're perfect to throw on over your favorite sweater and some jeans to really spice up your outfit, all while keeping warm. It's been my favorite thing to reach for as it gets colder. Plus, they perfectly match my pink Uggs. It's a winning combination in my book.
Faux fur coats also come in a range of styles and colors, and they're usually decently priced as far as coats go. A good coat and matching boots could easily take you through the rest of winter. So, if you're into effortlessly stylish combinations, faux fur coats are a great way to go.
2. Over the Knee Boots
It may be freezing cold outside, but some of us still don't want to let go of our skirts and dresses. That's why over the knee boots are perfect for a winter wardrobe! I just think they're such a great investment because they're so versatile. They're great for keeping your legs warm, especially paired with cozy tights. You can also slip them on over your jeans. You may even already have some from your fall wardrobe!
Personally, black over the knee boots are such a great addition to your closet. They easily pair with everything, they elevate a casual look, and they come in different styles. Mine have a little heel on them, but even the flats can really bring your ensemble together.
3. Gloves and Matching Headwear
A lot of people don't really like the bulky winter look, and think that there's an ultimatum between being in style and being warm. But one way that I like to stay warm is to match my winter accessories. You'd be more likely to wear your warm winter gloves and hats if it's a cute matching set that you really like!
I've been looking around for a new set, but my old winter accessories set was black fur earmuffs with matching black gloves. I absolutely loved wearing these, and they matched all of my coats so they were perfect. And, of course, they were incredibly warm!
4. White Knit Sweater
Knitwear is the perfect soft, cozy, warm thing that you'll want to grab and slip on before you start your week on a frosty Monday morning. This is another essential for a more effortless but put together look. I think a lot of us love anything that looks nice and is easy to wear when it comes to a cold winter. That's why white knit sweaters are so perfect! They're easy to pair with and can be worn any way that you like.
Some days it's enough to pair it with some brown boots and jeans and call it a day. I usually pair my white sweater with jeans, and my pink fur coat with matching Uggs. It looks like a tastefully orchestrated outfit all together, but in reality its jeans, boots, and a sweater.
If you really want to dress up the look, you can opt for a high neck or turtleneck. Then you could pair it with a high waisted skirt or some nice trousers. Either way, a white sweater can be worn in so many styles for many different occasions. You may be surprised at how easy it blends into your wardrobe, no matter what your style may be.
5. Lounge Sets
Like I said, the holidays and parties are over. Add that to the fact that it may just be too cold to even think about going out, and you've probably ended up with a lot of nights staying in. But maybe walking around all day in your pajamas just doesn't feel like it's enough for you. I understand. That's why lounge sets are so nice to have in your wardrobe for the winter!
I like a good set in general- they're an easy way to look put together. Lounge sets are no exception. They're great to have for taking part in your daily routine from the comfort of your home. Whether it's reading a book, baking, curling up by the fire, doing errands, or blogging, lounge sets are a good way to feel more together than in your pajamas, but way more comfortable than putting on a full outfit.
I hope these wardrobe essentials will help you comfortably and stylishly get through the next few weeks of winter, especially since it seems to just be getting colder! But remember, no matter how cold it is, you shouldn't have to sacrifice your style for comfort, or vise versa. After all, it is 2020. ;-)
Keep things sweet!
